Turning on a tap is an ordinary act, repeated many times a day. Yet behind this simple gesture lies a long history of human effort to secure public health and access to clean water. Aqua Vox: Urban Resonance transforms this invisible reality into an immersive, site-specific experience.
Built from bright orange pipes that evoke both a pipe organ and the language of urban infrastructure, the installation stands monumental and playful beneath the gothic archway of St. John’s Gate in London. It draws immediate attention, inviting people to pause, observe, and interact. By opening red and blue taps, visitors generate evolving soundscapes derived from the city’s water reservoirs and treatment works, creating a living composition that mirrors the flow of water from source to home.
More than an object, Aqua Vox is a collective performative space that reimagines the everyday act of accessing water. Modular and reusable, it can be adapted to different urban contexts, each time sparking new conversations about our most precious shared resource — water.
