[ENG] Milan grows, especially in height. How is it possibile to underline this change which is quickly transforming the look of the city and involving its inhabitants? How is it possibile to highlight and carefully consider this crucial change? Let's start numbering the skyscrapers: the historical ones,the ones which have just been completed and the ones which have just been started. A progressive numbering of the skycrapers located in the following urban areas: Central Station, Isola, Varesine, Garibaldi, the central district of the city which is the symbol of this conversion. Let's number them in a chronological order: first the Pirelli building, then the new tower of the regional headquarter and finally the towers which are still to be finished. Then let's join all the numbers with an ideal line representing the city plan of the future. Growing By Numbers: at least once everybody has been playing to link numbers with a pen to get a drawing out of it. With a play on words growing now becomes drawing. That's the drawing of the city of the future. The installation has achieved public and critical acclaim, becoming a temporary (December 2010-April 2011) outstanding landmark in Milan. [IT] Milano cresce, e cresce in altezza. Come sottolineare questa mutazione che sta rapidamente trasformando il volto della città e coinvolgendo i suoi cittadini? Come riuscire ad evidenziare e riflettere su questo cambiamento cruciale? Iniziamo a contare gli edifici che toccano il cielo, quelli storici, quelli appena terminati, quelli appena iniziati. Una numerazione progressiva delle architetture che si elevano in altezza nell'area Stazione Centrale, Isola, Varesine, Garibaldi. Nell'area che, al centro della città, è l'emblema di questa trasformazione. Contiamo in ordine cronologico, dal grattacielo Pirelli alla torre della nuova sede regionale, alle torri ancora in costruzione. E uniamo tutti i numeri con una linea ideale che tratteggi la mappa della città del futuro. Growing By Numbers: tutti abbiamo giocato almeno una volta ad unire con un tratto di penna i numeri e a ricavarne un disegno di senso compiuto. In inglese questo passatempo si chiama "drawing by numbers". Con un gioco di parole, qui il termine drawing (disegnare) viene sostituito da growing (crescere). E' il disegno della città del futuro.
